CAWT In Person and Online Trainings

By Scout Nelson

Several recertification opportunities were announced for Commercial Animal Waste Technicians in Minnesota for 2026. These trainings were designed for commercial manure haulers, applicators, and site managers who needed to maintain their CAWT licensure.

A total of five in-person workshops and one online training option were made available. The in-person workshops were scheduled at different locations across the state to improve access and participation.

Sessions were held in Sauk Centre on Jan. 28, during Pork Congress in Mankato on Feb. 10, in Hutchinson on Feb. 18, in Slayton on Mar. 4, and at FarmFest in Redwood County on Aug. 6.

In addition to in-person sessions, an online recertification course was offered from June 1 through Oct. 31, 2026. This option provided flexibility for participants who were unable to attend an in-person workshop or preferred remote learning.

All required training needed to be completed by Nov. 1 to qualify for CAWT recertification. This recertification was required for continued licensure through the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. The program helped ensure that commercial animal waste application followed state nutrient management and environmental protection standards.

The registration fee was set at $20 for both in-person and online training options. For in-person workshops, payment was collected at the door and could be made by cash, credit card, or check payable to University of Minnesota Extension.

Participants were asked to register in advance using the official registration link. Those with licensing-related questions were directed to contact the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, while course-specific questions were handled by Extension staff. In addition to training opportunities, participants were encouraged to stay informed through nutrient management resources, including podcasts, newsletters, and online educational platforms. These tools supported continued learning and helped applicators stay updated on best management practices, regulations, and nutrient stewardship expectations across Minnesota.
