Forage, beef, and dairy farmers are invited to the Southeast Minnesota Forage Field Day & Dairy Tour in Spring Valley, MN, on Tuesday, August 8. The event will take place at two farm hosts, Valley Angus Farm and Heusinkveld Farms.
At Valley Angus Farm, the day begins at 9:45 a.m. with a field tour led by Dan Miller, focusing on grazing fields, fencing, water types, and alfalfa's role in organic systems. Participants will also learn about the Minnesota Department of Agriculture's (MDA) resources for livestock producers, including cost-share programs that have benefited other farmers.
Tom Cotter will share methods to optimize the conservation and economic benefits of grazing cover crops.
After the field tour, participants will move to Heusinkveld Farms for lunch served at noon. Before touring the dairy facilities led by Nate Heusinkveld, attendees will learn about farmer resources offered by co-organizers Midwest Forage Association, Minnesota Dairy Initiative, and University of Minnesota Extension. There will also be a talk on carbon credits.
The event is FREE to attend. For meal planning purposes, attendees are encouraged to RSVP by emailing mfa@midwestforage.org or calling 651.484.3888. The agenda and further details can be found at https://midwestforage.org/events.php
