McCain Launches Data Driven Potato Grower Program

McCain Launches Data Driven Potato Grower Program

By Jamie Martin

McCain Foods has launched a pilot program aimed at helping potato growers make more informed and timely decisions throughout the growing season. The initiative is supported by Ceres AI and focuses on improving field visibility across North American potato acres.

The program combines agricultural data and advanced analytics to provide growers and McCain teams with a consistent view of crop performance. The goal is to help identify field variability earlier and support more effective management decisions.

Farm operations often face challenges when field information is incomplete, delayed, or spread across multiple sources. This can slow responses to emerging crop issues and make it harder to coordinate activities between growers and agronomy teams. The new program is designed to simplify that process through a scalable and easy-to-use approach.

Participants receive regular field-level insights that identify areas requiring closer attention. These insights can help guide scouting efforts, prioritize management actions, and support better in-season planning.

One of the key features of the program is sharing access to information. Growers and McCain teams can view the same field signals, create better alignment, and improve communication throughout the production cycle.

Ceres AI supports the initiative by converting field data into practical recommendations and actionable insights. The technology is designed to integrate with existing systems, helping ensure that information can be used effectively in daily operations.

"Through this grower pilot program, we are working to provide our growers with better visibility into their fields and more targeted support during the season," said Jeremy Buchman, Director of Agronomy, McCain Foods. "By aligning our teams and growers around a shared view of performance, we can act earlier, focus on the right areas, and improve outcomes together."

The project reflects the increasing adoption of data-driven agriculture across the industry. As growers look for ways to improve efficiency and productivity, digital tools are becoming important resources for monitoring crop health and managing risk.

"At its core, this work is about helping growers and McCain teams make better decisions, faster at scale," said Anubhav Sharma, Head of Marketing at Ceres AI. "By turning complex field data into clear insights, we are supporting focused scouting, better coordination, and more effective decision-making across participating acres, in a way that aligns with McCain's broader agricultural goals over time."

McCain believes the program can help strengthen relationships with growers while improving operational performance. By combining agronomic expertise with advanced technology, the company hopes to create a more connected and informed approach to potato production.
