The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has opened applications for its Agricultural Growth, Research, and Innovation (AGRI) Crop Research Grant program.
This initiative provides $1.75 million in funding to support applied crop research projects designed to improve agricultural product quality, quantity, and value across Minnesota’s $13.5 billion crop industry.
The grant aims to fund projects that deliver near-term benefits—within three to seven years—for Minnesota’s farmers and overall agricultural economy. Eligible applicants include Minnesota-based organizations, research institutions, individuals, or businesses with agricultural research capabilities.
Each proposal must include an outreach plan detailing how research results will be shared publicly to ensure statewide accessibility.
Special priority will be given to projects involving crops with limited access to traditional research funding and those that include outreach components serving farmers or rural communities with limited economic opportunities.
“The MDA expects to award $1.75 million through this round of funding, with a maximum grant amount of $250,000 per proposal,” the department stated. Full eligibility criteria and application details can be found on the AGRI Crop Research Grant webpage.
Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. CT on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
Funding for the Crop Research Grant is made available through the MDA’s AGRI Program, which provides grants to farmers, agribusinesses, and schools to strengthen Minnesota’s agricultural and renewable energy sectors.
By supporting innovative research, the MDA continues to invest in sustainable agricultural development, ensuring Minnesota remains a leader in crop productivity and innovation.
