USDA Expands Biofuel Projects Across America

USDA Expands Biofuel Projects Across America

By Jamie Martin

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has committed $537 million to 543 biofuel-related projects under the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program (HBIIP) across 29 states. This major investment supports rural energy, boosts agriculture, and reinforces the nation’s energy security.

The announcement came from U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins at an event in Iowa, a state known for its leadership in ethanol and biodiesel production.

The investment supports projects launched during the first 100 days of the current administration and aligns with the national goal of increasing American-grown energy.

HBIIP, first launched during the previous administration, helps fuel retailers install infrastructure like storage tanks and dispensers to offer fuels such as E15, E85, and B20—biofuels made from crops like corn and soybeans. These upgrades ensure wider access to biofuels, creating jobs and strengthening local economies.

“President Trump is honoring our commitment to America’s farmers, ranchers and small businesses, especially here in Iowa where corn and soy growers are crucial to supporting ethanol and biodiesel production,” Secretary Rollins said.

USDA is also working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to support biofuel-friendly policies such as Renewable Volume Obligations (RVO) and fuel waivers that enable year-round E15 sales.

These initiatives protect American farmers from trade challenges, diversify the energy market, and drive economic growth in rural communities.

With this latest funding round, USDA continues to champion American-made energy while creating new opportunities for rural America. These efforts directly benefit farmers by increasing demand for their crops and promoting environmental sustainability.
