Farm Leaders Support EPA Biofuel Targets

Farm Leaders Support EPA Biofuel Targets

By Jamie Martin

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced proposed biofuel blending volumes for 2026 and 2027 under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), including 15 billion gallons for conventional biofuels and 5.61 billion gallons for biomass-based diesel.

The announcement drew support from key figures in the agriculture and biofuel industries, who emphasized the proposal’s role in strengthening rural economies and promoting energy independence.

Devin Mogler, President and CEO of the National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA), praised the proposal’s focus on domestic feedstocks. “These strong volumes and prioritization of U.S. farmers aligns policy with actual domestic production capacity and ensures that American-grown feedstocks remain at the heart of a secure and affordable energy future.”

The proposal also received praise from Growth Energy, the Renewable Fuels Association, Clean Fuels Alliance America, and the National Corn Growers Association. These groups highlighted the benefits for rural communities, job creation, and innovation in renewable fuels.

The EPA’s decision to reduce the RIN value of imports like tallow and used cooking oil was seen as a win for soybean oil producers who have faced long-standing market challenges.

Many stakeholders stressed the importance of maintaining policies that reallocate lost gallons from exemptions, which could otherwise impact the industry’s stability. The proposal is expected to help secure energy and economic goals.

Industry groups look forward to the proposal’s finalization and continued collaboration with EPA to expand clean fuel use while ensuring long-term benefits for American farmers and fuel producers.
