Event to Help Employees Translate Military Leadership to Jobs
Minnesota Ag Connection - 09/13/2018

On Sept. 13, the State of Minnesota will host the 2018 "Honoring our Veterans in the Workplace" summit at the Saint Paul RiverCentre. The veterans summit will bring together over 350 state-employed veterans and state leaders to focus on translating military leadership skills to public service.

The summit will also acknowledge the positive work Minnesota's veterans are contributing to the state through their work in government. The summit will highlight reports on veteran hiring throughout the state, veteran resiliency in the workplace, and ultimately, the continued value of veterans at the State of Minnesota. There will be a panel on benefits, a reception for women veterans, and guest speakers who will talk about bridging the gap between military and civilian work, and the leadership gifts that veterans and service members bring to the workplace.

"Minnesota veterans bring many invaluable skills to our workforce," said Governor Dayton. "The State of Minnesota remains committed to ensuring valuable career opportunities are available to those who have volunteered to serve us and our country."

The summit comes two months following Governor Mark Dayton's proclamation naming July 2018 to be "Hire a Veteran Month" in the State of Minnesota.

"In the course of offering their service to our country, our veterans gained indispensable skills and developed an ability to work under pressure," said MMB Commissioner Myron Frans. "It's impossible to fully repay these brave men and women for their service. However, here at the State of Minnesota we are committed to being there for each of our 3,000 veterans as they have been here for us."
