Minnesota Sugarbeet and Oat Forecasts Up Double Digits

Minnesota corn production is forecast at 1.51 billion bushels, up 20% from last year, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service - Crop Production report. Based on conditions as of August 1, yields are expected to average 197.0 bushels per acre, an increase of 24.0 bushels per acre from last year. If realized, this would be the highest Minnesota corn yield on record. Corn planted acreage is estimated at 8.10 million acres. An estimated 7.65 million of the acres planted will be harvested for grain.

Soybean production is forecast at 374 million bushels, up 25% from last year. The yield is forecast at 51.0 bushels per acre, 7.0 bushels above 2019. If realized, this would be the second highest Minnesota soybean yield on record, behind the 52.0 bushels per acre in 2016. Soybean planted acreage is estimated at 7.40 million acres with 7.33 million acres to be harvested.

Spring wheat production is estimated at 73.1 million bushels, a decrease of 8% from 2019. Yield is forecast at 58.0 bushels per acre, up 1.0 bushel from the July forecast and up 1.0 bushel per acre from 2019.

Oat production for grain is forecast at 8.32 million bushels, up 34% from last year. The yield is forecast at 64.0 bushels per acre, down 2.0 bushels from the July forecast but up 2.0 bushels from 2019.

Barley production is forecast at 3.20 million bushels, down 13% from 2019. Yield is forecast at 71.0 bushels an acre, up 4 bushels from 2019.

Sugarbeet production is estimated at 12.2 million tons, up 45% from last year. Yield is forecast at 29.0 tons per acre, 4.0 tons per acre above last year.

Minnesota hay yield for alfalfa and alfalfa mixtures is forecast at 2.70 tons per acre, with a total production of 2.00 million tons, a 12% decrease in production from 2019. The forecast yield for other hay is 1.60 tons per acre, with a production of 576,000 tons.
