By Jamie Martin

Chris Lam, Ph.D., a distinguished member of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, was recently honored with the Governor's Excellence in Service Award by Governor Bill Lee. This accolade is awarded to state employees who significantly enhance the quality and efficiency of public services while reducing costs.

Dr. Lam, renowned for his expertise in environmental and chemical monitoring, has been instrumental in improving laboratory functions and optimizing chemical analyses to benefit public service sectors. "His work is often behind the scenes, conducting technical analyses and eliminating unnecessary testing that improve turnaround times and provide cost savings that benefit the state’s taxpayers," stated Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher, D.V.M.

“To be acknowledged for work I enjoy brings a sense of fulfillment,” Lam said, expressing his gratitude and passion for his field. His career at the Tennessee Department of Agriculture began in 2010, where he has made significant strides in various scientific capacities, currently serving as the Agricultural Scientist Manager.

Lam’s professional journey also includes a 13-year tenure as a Senior Research Scientist at Bayer Crop Science. His academic credentials were earned internationally, holding a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Baylor University.

Lam's commitment extends beyond professional achievements; he is dedicated to continuous improvement and collaboration, aiming to empower and educate his colleagues and the broader community.
